Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado (PPVC) works to elect lawmakers who will deliver on the policies we need to care for our patients – protecting and expanding access to abortion, gender-affirming care, and other sexual and reproductive health services, supporting comprehensive sexual health education, and fighting for reproductive rights and justice across Colorado.
Our endorsement process involves several steps to ensure that the candidates we support align with our mission and vision for the future of Colorado:
1. Candidate Questionnaire: Candidates seeking PPVC’s endorsement are required to complete a detailed questionnaire. This questionnaire covers their positions on various issues related to reproductive rights, access to health care, and other relevant policy areas that intersect with reproductive health care access, such as racial and social justice issues.
2. Review of Voting Records: PPVC examines the voting records of incumbents or candidates who have previously held public office.
3. Candidate Interviews: PPVC conducts interviews with candidates to gain a deeper understanding of their positions and commitments. These interviews allow candidates to elaborate on their responses to the questionnaire and provide additional insights into their policy priorities and plans. Interviews are conducted by the Colorado Endorsement Committee comprised of board members and community members.
4. Evaluation of Competitiveness: The committee assesses the competitiveness of the race and the candidate's potential impact on advancing reproductive and sexual health care policies.
5. Board Approval: The final decision on endorsements requires approval by the PPRMAF Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall strategic goals.
PPVC endorsements and ratings are issued for the current election cycle only. Previously endorsed or recognized candidates must apply for endorsement or recognition each time they run. Federal endorsements are made by Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
